Kakashi:Is this the End?

    Kakashi sighed heavily, as the rain slowly seeped its’ way through his blood stained clothing. Gazing at the names of all his forgotten comrades, long departed from this world but always clear in his mind, he let his sadness engulf him. Strands of wild, silver hair drooped lazily over his headband, weighed down by more than just his worries. He untied his rather worn protector slowly, running a pale finger over the small, engraved leaf.

“What happened to us all, Yondaime? Where did we go wrong?” He muttered sadly as the slow trickle of tears mingled with the crying of the heavens.

       Kakashi knelt down, placing it carefully on the monument. He also placed a small book next to it. The name “Icha Icha Paradise.” stared up at him, pages soaked and heavy with blood, his once most precious item. He took one last painful look at all of the names. The tears streamed down his face, as he read the latest additions:

Legendary Sannin Jiraiya
TenTen
Rock Lee
Akamichi Chouji
Aburame Shino
Hyuuga Neji
Hyuuga Hinata
Yamanaka Ino
Haruno Sakura
Godaime Tsunade

         The guilt torn jounin collapsed onto the sodden floor. He had promised, over and over again, that he wouldn’t let anyone he cared about die. He had made so many promises. Sharingan Kakashi? The amazing Copy Ninja? He wasn’t even worthy of being a ninja any longer. Konoha had already fallen. Those who had survived were either too injured or too grief stricken to be of any use. Kakashi didn’t want to believe it, but they would be forced to flee, to leave the war and abandon their once valiant city.

              Eventually, the tears stopped and the broken man stood shakily, facing the monument. He peeled his mask down, feeling no need to conceal his features any longer, as he stared sadly with his mismatched eyes.

“I-I’m so sorry.” He choked out, before turning away for the final time.
